We recently traveled west to a small town rodeo! I remember going to this rodeo as a youngster with my aunt, uncle and little sister. We would drag with a blanket to put on the ground and then we would settle in. Things have somewhat changed and improved. First of all, there is no longer an outhouse for the "Mares" -- the women and I'm sure the men have a new bathroom now closer to the arena. There are concessions including beverages available for purchase -- I don't remember exactly but I wonder if we brought our own little cooler with snacks and pop, etc. to help us through the hot afternoon.
We still watched the bucking broncs and the bulls. I couldn't help but notice how very big these bucking broncs are. The animals all looked very well fed and after there introduction and departure from the arena they joined the others in a back pasture to graze. Could it be a life of leisure - a few minutes no... not even 8 seconds in most cases and then back to the pasture.
We also enjoyed the barrel racing horses who know their jobs and work so hard to make the pattern count.
You don't have to go far to "head" west!
I miss those small town rodeos!! I met so many neat people, cowboys and cowgirls! 26 days woohoo!
