Tricks After Treats!

The crew came over to our side of the pasture for a visit - lucky them!  I was home and had a handful of apples for them.  Since the summer instead of just Chili having a liking for apples they have all tried it and absolutely love them! 

Although they did find out that eating them in the snow is a bit different....a good bite into the apple and they fall farther down in the snow....then a little pawing might help but then the apple disappears all together.  They apparently can still smell the apples as they have now been pawed underneath them and backing up is the only way to find the apple. 

Now you would think they would give Mom here

alittle appreciation or even a thank you -

Finally......Ace comes  through

with a little love!

Now have you ever noticed that Ace is not camera

shy - he loves to be the center of attention -

he's nosy and a know it all ohhh and

don't forget he is a pest but I

love him!

He does have somewhat of a special story

which I will tell you sometime....

I believe that apple treats sparked

the frisky in everybody....

Farrier Time Again... & Whooping It Up!

The farrier was scheduled to come today and he did...  I'm glad that it was 25 degrees this morning and not that terrible cold of last week.  I got to the barn plenty early and  had time to take some pictures.

I know they are waiting on the other side of

the door!

Then.... I heard the sound... the sound of...

WHOOPIN' IT UP!

Made my day - to witness them having

a SNORTIN' WHOOPIN' GOOD TIME!

Checkin' In On the Boys & Chili!

Chili, the only mare we have is going to be

23 yrs old this spring.  We purchased her

10 yrs ago and she was a retired

game horse supposedly qualifying

for the world in "Keyhole" at the

ApHC Nationals in 1997.

We used her for trailriding and riding

out west in Medora, North Dakota

and elk hunting in Idaho.

She is a wonderful "old girl" -

Hubby calls her "his own" and they

have a mutual agreement and get

along very well!

Jack will also turn 23 yrs old this spring - he's

been with the family since 1988 so he has

many stories to tell. 

Today was a bit warmer around 0 degrees and

above.... but it still was cold.  While the

guys were out sledding I checked in on

the horses and took care of chores.

I'd say this is their favorite part of

the day!  All noses in the hay!!

While I was moving the hay out - I saw

Tigger -- He actually is a BARNCAT!

It is actually a pile now turned mostly to dirt

but it appears that there is a lot of activity upon it!

who further indicated that it was just a matter

of minutes and "Ace" was on the pile!

Dreaming of Greener Pastures by Ace

If you haven't heard - Minnesota is like an

icebox!  A frozen one at that!

Life here right now is pretty uneventful.

As long as the big guy and the  machine

bring us a bale each weekend  -

we are happy!

Since it has been sooo cold this last

bale didn't last as long and that

found us venturing over into that

other pasture...

The sun has come out the last couple of days

so that does provide a little relief between

noon and two --

It has been so cold the dogs haven't

even been out to visit!

We hear that it is suppose to warm

up - sure would be nice if it

was a heatwave!
