My Guy Ace!

A few years we were looking at horses and checked into the pedigree of an appaloosa mare we have. We looked further and found an interest in "Mighty Tim" who was raised at the Sheldak Ranch in North Dakota. So we made some phone calls - we ended up visiting them and taking a small tour of their land & horses. Looking at young ones!

We later found a stud a few miles away with some of the same lineage and we had a couple mares at home so why not? First we tried our appaloosa mare - no luck.... then we tried a POA mare we had -- no luck.... No more mares so struck a deal - lets put the stud fee money towards a foal. They agreed.

We visited with two horse colts they had - this was the one - isn't he beautiful! He came to our house as a weanling and oh did he have a lot to learn.



He was pretty special - he even got his own stall (large stall) in the barn.

Naming him was not a problem. My folks at the time were remodeling and hubby the carpenter was assisting them. In one of the walls, he found a playing card (one side of the card had an appaloosa baby on it - so they knew who the cards belonged to! And the other side was an Ace of Diamonds). Therefore this appaloosa weanling had a name -- "ACE". His formal name being "Sho-Lo's Ace" and he has the same birthday as our son!

Ace is now 7 1/2 years old and in true Appaloosa fashion his appearance has changed but he is still the same curious friendly ol' guy!



Here he is thinking it is time for some grain - he is quite a character!
